Code4Europe

Empowering the next generation of digitally skilled Europeans through coding, creativity and digital education.

About the Project

Expanding digital education across the continent

Code4Europe is a European project launched in 2024 to expand and strengthen digital education across the continent. Funded with €6 million under the DIGITAL-2023-SKILLS-04-BOOSTINGDIGIT call within the DIGITAL Coordination and Support Actions, the project builds on the momentum of EU Code Week and supports a broader, more inclusive culture of digital participation.

Its mission is to inspire and empower the next generation of digitally-savvy Europeans by promoting digital literacy and coding skills, with the aim of increasing their entry into the digital workforce. Through collaboration between organisations across Europe, Code4Europe helps connect schools, educators, communities, volunteers and young people to meaningful learning opportunities in coding and digital creativity.

A European consortium for digital opportunity

Code4Europe brings together a broad European consortium of organisations working in education, digital skills, technology, communication and community engagement. Together, the partners contribute complementary expertise to support the development, visibility and long-term impact of EU Code Week across more than 20 countries.

The consortium combines strategic coordination, educational outreach, platform development, communication, community support and sustainability planning. This collaborative approach helps transform EU Code Week from an annual initiative into a stronger year-round movement that encourages participation, creativity and digital confidence among children and young people.

Our Role

Our role in Code4Europe

POLITEHNICA Bucharest contributes to Code4Europe through its involvement in National Hubs & Local Support, Careers in Digital, and Project Management & Quality Assurance. As one of Romania’s leading technical universities, POLITEHNICA Bucharest helps connect the European goals of Code4Europe with local educational communities, national stakeholders and future digital talent.

A key part of POLITEHNICA Bucharest’s role is its contribution to the Discover Digital Programme with Universities. The project proposal identifies Romania, together with Ireland, as a pilot location for the design and testing of this programme with local schools. Through this work, POLITEHNICA Bucharest supports activities that open access to university laboratories, advanced digital environments and campus-based experiences that encourage young people to consider digital and STEM study paths.

POLITEHNICA Bucharest also contributes to the local support dimension of EU Code Week by helping strengthen engagement with national communities and stakeholders, while supporting the project’s effective implementation through management and quality-oriented activities.

Impact

Why Code4Europe matters in Romania

In Romania, Code4Europe creates new opportunities to strengthen participation in digital education and to connect young people with coding, computational thinking and creative uses of technology. The project also helps support educators, organisers and local communities by giving them greater visibility, stronger resources and access to a wider European network.

For our organisation, this project is an opportunity to contribute both locally and at European level. It allows us to connect our experience, networks and initiatives with a broader movement that encourages inclusion, innovation and confidence in digital skills.
